Then this weekend I am away... what a great educational time I have been having singing and learning how to make the songs we sing much better than we are for this competitionn coming up in May and well... #2 happens like this... I get up this morning, take my shower, vitamins and am ready to go... I've been up for almost 2 1/2 hours, the rest of my quartet wants to go eat breakfast before heading to our first coaching session... Ok, I can handle that I'm hungry, haven't had anything except vitamin water and vitamins, so I figure a breakfast of eggs and bacon would be good... right... WRONG! I get the breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant. $8.95... good deal for how much food you would have been able to eat on my OLD size stomach before the band! I get a spoonful of eggs, a handful of bacon slices, and a spoonful of homefried potatoes (with some hot sauce and ketchup). NOW, remember that there are only a very small handful of my friends that know about my band. One is the bass in my quartet. (Another one is a fellow "lead" in my chorus.) My bass was with me... I grab a bite of bacon... now this bacon was not done real well. I really wish it had been crispier. I bite off 1/2 a slice and chew and swallow... OMG here we go again... my eyes start to water, my mouth starts to water... and I start to hiccup. God this hurts. please go down, please go down... FINALLY... My bass is starting to panic I can see it on her face... My bari (who just so happens to be 21 years old) looks at me and starts to say... are you ok? Waitress shows up and says "can I get anyone anything" Whew... thank you for the impecable timing of that waitress. I take a sip of OJ... and very very slowly eat the rest of my eggs and homefries... left the bacon... I think if it had been more crispy like I lik eit anyway, I would not have had a problem... Why is it that we are tighter in the morning? I thought I'd be ok... I normally eat after being up 2 hours in the morning... Was it the bacon???
I'm very interested to see what your thoughts on both situations are... Please let me know... Tonight I am relaxing with my roomate (My bass) at the hotel. we have a 7 hour meeting that we must attend tomorrow and then I will be heading home. Hope the rest of your weekend is enjoyable. Pray that I do not have anymore STUCK problems.... Not just this weekend but EVER, Ever again!!!

I find I am way tighter in the morning.. I usually have a cup of green tea and a couple cups of water. If I still feel tight cause I can tell usually then I will have a protein shake. I hate eggs. I will gag them down if I have to but love my mush,.. I cook my mush with milk. I use sunny boy or cream of wheat or I mix away.. LOL... I learn everyday what I can and can't eat. I started to eat a turkey dog at lunch and yup knew right away that nope that is not going to work and had left overs..

Now that I am starting to get closer to some real restriction (I have 5 cc's in a 10 cc Band), I find that I am a bit tighter in the morning too!
So if I eat out, I usually eat some Scrambled Eggs and Oatmeal. I also can usually eat some Ham Steak, if I take SMALL BITES and chew, chew, chew!! I find the Bacon usually causes me problems.
I think your problem started with your first Stuck episode on Thursday. You probably should have eaten the Cracker and Tuna, in several bites and chewed each bite well.
I myself, am still struggling with remembering to take small bites and chewing my food properly.
But once you have a Stuck episode, I myself find that I must be really careful for at least a day or two! Depending on how bad the episode was, the Esophagus and Stomach will swell up and cause further Stuck episode easily!
Hope this helps and I hope that the rest of your weekend goes well.
Oh, boy!! I do know the feeling well! I am really tight in the morning too, so eating ANYTHING is usually a challenge, but eating bacon or eggs would be the hardest thing to eat for me! I have tried eggs at different times, and every time I swear I can live the rest of my life without them! Also, some of my LB friends have a really hard time with potatoes--unless they are really crispy--like french fries. What you are experiencing is usually called a "PB" if it makes you throw up. Usually, burping will make it feel better--although the hickups are VICIOUS! I used to get esophogal spasms too---but that has passed too with eating REEEEEEEAAAAAL slow, little bites and chewing well. I agree--the tuna and cracker would take me about three bites now. :o) Crazy--I know. My DR wants me to drink about 8 oz of water before I eat anything, too. But hot liquids are always best. Good luck!
I think that you are getting closer to your "sweet spot" and that is why situation #2 may have happened. I can not eat anythign until after 1pm becaseu I am just tight in the morning.
Sit #1 was probably just not chewing the crazkers enough!! It happens to all of us
Good Luck and no more stuck episodes :-)
Thanks guys... I appreciate your comments and advice... I am home today and I did not have anymore episodes yesterday. I managed to have breakfast again with my friend which consisted of VERY CRISPY bacon (the kind that almost melts as you chew) and 2 Over easy eggs, mashed up good. It all went down much easier this time and I had been up about 2 hours before we ate again. Then I had 1/2 a grilled chicken sandwich at the meeting (without the bread, so basically 1/2 a grilled chicken breast and tomato slice)Then we stopped at Chili's on the drive home and we split a chicken appetizer. (Fingers, boneless wings & onion strings). I've had NOTHING today but just put a chicken in the roaster with peppers onions and potatoes! Yummy!
Rebekah... Just what does "PB" stand for?
Carla... I've only had 1 fill of 1.75 cc's in a 10 cc band??? I don't think I'm at my sweet spot yet?
Glad it's gotten better! I'm tighter in the mornings to and hot drinks like coffee help to loosen me up eggs can be problematic because they don't break down anymore than you chew them and act like a rubber stopper in the stoma...same with rubbery bacon. A cracker can become a giant ball of bready dough as well. I like looser/safer things in the morning with lots of hot coffee! PB=Productive Burp
